BLUE NOSES

(Russia, 1999 -)

The core of the Blue Noses group is represented by the artists Vyacheslav Mizin and Alexander Shaburov. Vyacheslav Mizin was born in 1962 in Novosibirsk (Russia). He graduated from the Institute of Architecture in Novosibirsk. Alexander Shaburov was born in 1965 in Sverdlovsk (now Ekaterinburg), where he graduated from the Art School.

Since the late 1980s and through the 1990s, their artistic careers developed individually. The group Blue Noses was formed in 1999, on the eve of New year 2000. Some of their projects benefit from the participation of other artists, such as Konstantin Skotnikov, Dmitry Bulnygin, Maxim Zonov and Evgeny Ivanov.

The Blue Noses comment on their surroundings with their video and photographical works: their fellow artists, the history of art, but first and foremost, Russian society and the Russian state. Their principal genre is a sort of performance — pranks, sketches or gags, played by the artists before the video camera.
