For miart 2025, Avantgarde Gallery (Zagreb, Croatia) presents a focused selection of works by the proto-conceptual Gorgona group (1959–1966/68).

The Gorgona group was a collective that reshaped postwar European art through a radical, proto-conceptual approach. Its members—Josip Vaništa, Ivan Kožarić, Julije Knifer, Marijan Jevšovar, Đuro Seder, Miljenko Horvat, Radoslav Putar, Matko Meštrović, and Dimitrije Bašičević-Mangelos — rooted their work in existentialism, nihilism, the absurd, and Zen Buddhism, challenging traditional forms and narratives. Their philosophy positioned them as a defining force within the European avant-garde of the 1960s. Although not an official member, Ivo Gattin — region’s most notable Art Informel artist — shared Gorgona’s avant-garde sensibility, making his inclusion in this presentation significant.
